In order to reveal how royal jelly can help us to increase the possibility of becoming mum or dad let’s find out what royal jelly is and what is made of.

Royal Jelly …does it have anything to do with royals ?

Well… yes and no. No, because royal jelly is not some luxurious dessert, served on the royal court and moreover has nothing to do with a sweet taste and Yes, it is the only food of one royal – the Queen Bee!

Royal Jelly is the food substance made by worker bees exclusively for bees babies or larvae. Larvae are feed with this highly nutritious stuff in the first few days of their lives. In case the baby bee is fed only with royal jelly for a longer period then that baby will become the Queen bee.

Royal Jelly is a concentrate of vitamins – A,B,C,D,E ( 350mg of vitamins in 1gr of royal jelly !), minerals, calcium, iron and 18 different essential amino acids plus antibacterial and immune stimulative substance.

What is the connection between royal jelly and fertility ?

First of all , royal jelly is the food for the Queen bee. Thanks to this specific mixture of different vitamins, minerals and other very healthy elements Queen be is able to lay up to 2000 eggs per day. So the question is – if royal jelly has such a great influence to the bee fertility would be possible to have a similar effect to the humans?

What does science have to say?

To be honest I could not find many clinical studies which are trying to find a bond between human fertility and royal jelly consumption but there several, very useful researches done on animals ( lab mice , ships … ) that gave us a hope that whole story about royal jelly and fertility problems is not some kind of fairy tale .

One of these animal studies was made in 2006 by the University of Science and Technology and had outstanding results. The scientists divided ships into two groups, one group was given royal jelly and the other one received a placebo . The number of lambs that were born was visibly higher in the group that was taking royal jelly.

Although there are no many clinic studies including humans I would outline this one – Researchers from Sohag University hospital in Egypt observed in 2008 the effects of royal jelly and honey administered intra-vaginally. The conclusion of the study is that this combination can help with a reduced number of moving sperm and that royal jelly could indeed be useful in treating infertility.

Two years after this study, the same topic research was made but on male animals. The conclusion was that males that were given royal jelly had a higher level of testosterone and more quality spermatozoids then males who received a placebo.

Another study, conducted in Japan and published in 2007 shows that the royal jelly has a tendency to imitate human estrogen and can help those suffering from low estrogen levels. Oestrogen is essential for bone formation and normal gene expression and is vital for a regular menstrual cycle. Although more studies are needed to show the effect of royal jelly on the uterus, this is a useful potential effect for women with weak uterine muscles or for those who has thin layer of the uterus due to the long-term use of contraceptive pills.

Regular consumption of high-quality royal jelly has shown that it helps in the hormones balance. This is useful for those individuals who suffer from hormonal imbalance, as it helps to provide support to the endocrine system.

To summarize all these researches and make a simple conclusion :

Royal jelly could have a great influence on :

1.Increasing libido

2.Proper development of egg cells and spermatozoa support

3.Balance of hormones
